The Salt Phase of the Sudbury Neutrino Observatory

With the addition of 2 tonnes of NaCl in May 2001, the Sudbury Neutrino Observatory has entered the second of its three phases of operation. Adding salt increases our efficiency to detect the neutral current signal which, in combination with our published electron neutrino flux measurement, allows us to independently determine the active, non-electron component of the solar neutrino flux. This poster will emphasize the motivation for adding salt and discuss the backgrounds introduced with the salt. It will also describe the calibration of the detector and outline the procedure for analysis of solar neutrino data during the salt phase.
